Nikki Roxette Palumpon

performing artist, digital creator

I am an undergrad student at Cal State Channel Islands working towards my bachelor's in Performing Arts Theatre Emphasis. Ever since I was younger, I've always been into film-making; directing, acting, and transferring to CSUCI made me fall in love with theater. I've been creating videos since 2012 and I currently have a Youtube channel in which I showcase my creative side. As an artist, creator, I want to inspire others through my work and in hopes I get to make people smile and feel confident with themselves.

Performing Arts Capstone Project 2021

In partnership with BRITE (formerly known as Straight Up)

WHO

My community partner for this project is BRITE (formerly known as Straight Up). I am working with Victoria Sayeg and Katherine Kasmir. BRITE is a youth development program engaging teens and young adults ages 12-25 in advocacy and action around issues they care about. They promote health and well-being and seek to help change social norms that encourage, accept and allow risky activities such underage and binge drinking, impaired driving, tobacco use, prescription drug, and marijuana abuse.

WHAT

This project is about self-esteem and gaining confidence. I believe that theatre/acting can help boost someone's confidence so I am creating a short film about the effects and struggles of having low self-esteem as well as doing a workshop with high school students that BRITE works with. The workshop will consist of premiering my short film and acting exercises that will benefit these kids and teach them how theatre can help and how important it is to have healthy self-esteem.

WHERE

Due to the pandemic and constraints, the workshop will be on Zoom.

WHEN

The workshop will be held on Friday, April 16 2021 @ 6pm-7:30pm.

WHY

Many kids and young adults suffer from low self-esteem and I know when I was their age, it was something I went through and struggled with. It took me some time to gain and love myself. I believe that theater and acting can help boost confidence. It's important to have healthy self-esteem, when you value and believe in yourself, you feel secure and worthwhile.
